We offer a wide range of two- and five-day courses in a peaceful woodland setting, April-November. Courses range from carving a bowl or a totem pole to making a coracle, a chestnut gate or a chair from a tree. All our courses are suitable for everyone: men, women, complete novices and experienced green woodworkers, interested amateurs or anyone just wanting to try something out.
Regular courses are for adults; we also offer a one-day children's course suitable for youngsters aged ten and up. We provide all the materials needed, personally and locally sourced as much as possible; we sell green woodwork tools too.
All our courses are held in our Woodland Workshop in Dorset, near to the Jurassic Coast 'World Heritage Site', perfect for a short break or longer holiday. There's excellent accommodation nearby, from simple B&Bs to boutique hotels. We also have on-site camping and bodgers' shelters for hire.
The course location is idyllic - in a woodland clearing that's cool and shady in summer, warm and cosy in winter. The craft techniques and the types of wooden equipment we use and teach are ancient, dust-free and quiet. Our guests often remark that they have enjoyed spending a day or two in the peace of the woods just as much as they have enjoyed the course.
Our woodland is also available for hire - as a venue for private parties, team-building events or family or group outings. It's also excellent for location film/TV work and has recently been the venue for a BBC 'Mastercrafts' series with Monty Don.
Whether you are carving a bowl, working on a pole lathe or using a shaving horse; creating a totem pole or making yourself a new garden gate, we're sure that your time with us will be memorable, enjoyable, and relaxing too. We look forward to welcoming you.
