One Day Spoon Carving Course

A one-day course is an excellent, relaxing opportunity to get away from it all and do something different for a day, in the peace and tranquillity of our Woodland Workshop.

Over the day we will teach you the basics of the very satisfying craft of spoon carving using green (unseasoned) wood. You will learn various 'grasps' and carving techniques using very high quality handmade crook knifes and a small hatchet/axe.

These courses are suitable both for complete novices and people with some experience, who wish to hone their carving and whittling skills.

By the end of the day you can expect to have made a simple spoon of your own, and to have mastered the basic skills sufficiently to practice on your own. There is also a more in-depth two-day course available.

Price: £150 per person, including materials and use of a dedicated set of high quality tools.

When: any week day, 10-4.

Who For: open to be booked by individuals; these courses can have up to four people attending; ages 18+; novices and experienced woodworkers alike.

Two Day Spoon Carving Course

With the two-day version of this course, the extra time available enables us to explore further what's involved in selecting suitable pieces of wood to work, and the merits of various tree species for specific purposes. It also means you can learn and, very importantly, practice under supervision some more complicated grasps and techniques, including making cranked spoons.
