Welcome to your new home up in the branches, we hope that you had a good journey.

Pizza making

If planning to use your pizza oven please see our lighting the pizza oven page.

Logs & Kindling

We have refilled your log bag, kindling & firelighters, if you need more please help yourself from the log store. To transport log bags we have wheelbarrows by the log store, please return these after use. Logs, kindling and firelighter refills are complimentary to treehouse guests.

If you would like to purchase anything else from the Honesty shop, please help yourself and make payment on our  woodland shop page.

The slide

The slide is great fun but changes speed under different conditions, clothing etc… Therefore please hold on to the edges to test how fast you go down on the 1st run! It’s also the fire escape.

Please store the hammock under cover by the back door so that it doesn’t get damp and mouldy when not in use. The hammock hanging position is marked with red ribbon by the tree shower and tree so that you know where to safely  hang it when the sun shines.

Rotating Log burner.

The log burner rotates so that it can be pointed anywhere in the room. When it’s  hot please take care not to burn yourself – use an oven cloth or similar. Don’t dry clothes or towels on or near the woodturner as this is specifically forbidden by the fire officer.

The wooden box on the wall contains the sauna control & hot tub bubbles on/off switch. To heat up the sauna switch it on using the power button on the top left of the control unit (the sauna light switch is on the same panel just below power) then switch the heater on/off using the button on the bottom right next to the temperature adjustment. The temperature should be set somewhere in the middle & then adjusted to suit. The sauna will take about 15 mins to heat up.

The sauna works on gas bottles and therefore it is essential to SWITCH OFF the sauna after use, otherwise the gas bottles will run out. These gas bottles also run the hot water for the baths, tree shower & kitchen, therefore if the sauna were to be left on for a very long time all hot water would stop working too!

Hot tub

The rooftop hot tub will be left empty and needs to be filled with fresh hot water just before use. If there is any tree debris/leaves etc please simply hose down with the coiled hose before filling. Please replace the cover after use.

Copper bath

Please be careful as this can get slippery with soap etc.

The bedroom can be shut off from daylight by pulling the semi-circular curtain, the side window shutter and by lowering the flap above the bed with the pulley.

The mains water is suitable for drinking, the hot water is heated on demand so takes a couple of minutes to arrive, thereafter it is plentiful. The tree showers are particularly popular in the rain.

Electric blanket

There are dual control electric blankets for the colder months, the controls are on each side of the bed by the mattress.

Please store food inside -the squirrels will help themselves in no time to anything edible and unguarded outside! We really don’t want to encourage them with a regular food supply.

No noise policy

Please don’t play music or disturb the other guests with noisy behaviour as sound travels in the woods. Guests that flout these rules & disturb other guests will be asked to leave immediately without any refund. Please switch mobiles to silent and don’t shout when using mobiles!

Dairy farming

The woods are generally very peaceful, the sounds of nature & the forest are very much part of the experience. However apologies in advance if once in a while the birds, owls and wildlife are accompanied by the sounds of dairy farming activity and/or country sports. This is very much part & parcel of living in a remote dairy farming community.  Occasionally some of the seasonal farming activities can be noisy and/or smelly… This is not something we can or would want to change & any noise or muck spreading smells are usually short-lived and everything returns to normal before long.

Privacy & anonymity

We wont disturb you during your stay unless called upon or absolutely necessary. If you have any problems or questions during your stay please don’t hesitate to contact the duty manager on the duty phone (the current number is always displayed below the in/out board at the entrance to the camp).

Fire risk is of particular concern in our treehouses, therefore please don’t leave the woodturning stove, bbq or pizza oven fires unattended.

Tea lights and unguarded candles are prohibited – we supply enclosed candle lanterns & candles provided for candlelight.

The bbq uses charcoal and/or logs, the pizza oven & log burning stove use kindling & logs only.

Please leave the embers and ash for us to deal with when we are cleaning – properly dealing with these is critical in order to prevent an accidental fire.

If you are not experienced with lighting a fire it is important to start with a few sticks of kindling & one firelighter, once burnt down a bit gradually add small split logs until there is a good heart to the fire. Thereafter logs can be added as and when. When getting it going you can leave the door open if attending it or with the air control fully open if leaving it for a few minutes. Once it’s going you control the rate of burn with the air control on the front/bottom. Its best to close this down when retiring at night so that it lasts longer.

We are not allowed to pre- light the log burners and leave them unattended before arrival, however it takes no time to get them going and to heat the treehouse on arrival.

We will try and leave a bed of ash & any nice dry bits of charred logs in the log burner when cleaning as this aides starting a new fire.

Please vacate the treehouse by 10 am on the day of departure. We are hard pressed to get everything cleaned, restocked and ready in the limited time available.

Please sort your recycling and food waste & leave it in the separate bins at the bottom of your stairs/under the rope bridge.

Every council seems to differ – here are the West Dorset categories:

Glass -bottles & jars with metal lids on (no cans).

General waste- plastic film, polystyrene, plastic bags, crisp packets (broken glass wrapped in paper or card)

Recycling – paper & cardboard, tins, hard plastic trays, tbs & bottles.

Food waste – fruit, veg & peelings, meat, fish & bones, tea bags & coffee grounds, egg shells, all other caked and uncooked food (no plastic bags)

On departure please leave the back door open on its hook to air the space.

Please remember to move your tag on the in/out board to “have departed” so that we know when we can start the cleaning & restocking.

We hope that you have a great time.
